As the winter makes its way to Vilnius, the capital prepares for the festive season, and there’s a festive delight around every corner. From having a small and cozy yet traditional Christmas market, Vilnius has evolved into the go-to capital for the merry season over the years. Christmas elves, white-bearded Santa, unique ice skating rinks, and many market spots are just a few reasons for you to visit Vilnius during the 2025 Christmas season.
Christmas Market at the Cathedral Square
Ice skating rink at the Town Hall Square
This year, the Town Hall Square in Vilnius chose a new look: a uniquely shaped ice skating rink. Every year, it opens in a new location. Being open for two months until the end of January, the ticket for this wintery activity runs between 5-7 euros, including the rental skating gear. Outdoor skating uplifts the experience as you’re located in the heart of the old town, at a triangle-shaped square in front of the Town Hall building. Though restored, some historical sources indicate that its origins go back to the XVI century. Around the ice skate rink, you can grab a warm drink or a tasty bite to eat.
Old Town Festive Decorations
Another must-do while in Vilnius during the Christmas season is to stroll down its stunning old town streets. You will find cute, winter-themed dressed famous sculptures around the city centre. Also, you cannot miss out on streets such as Stebuklų or Vokiečių, which radiate Christmas coziness through their stunning and well-curated decorations. Go for a coffee session or souvenir hunting, as there are plenty of worthy stops along the way. Vilnius Railway Station
On December 1, the festively lit Vilnius Railway Station, decorated with beautiful Christmas trees and filled with gifts, welcomed the first train to its station. For the fourth year in a row, the local railway has continued the tradition and invited you to travel on decorated trains during the holiday season. Additionally, they’ve been running Christmas-themed events and activities throughout the entire month of December. Some say you can greet elves, taste grandma’s baked cookies, or meet the Santa Claus himself, but you’ll have to visit the place yourself to confirm.
